Make Web Performance Matter: A Fresh Look at Tools and Techniques

Portrait of a smiling man with light brown hair wearing a white shirt and blue jacket

Mark Felton

As a Technical Account Manager at Acquia for 10 years, I analyzed hundreds of websites and helped dozens of customers improve the performance of their web applications. I developed expertise in CDN configuration and application performance monitoring (APM) tools, but some of my favorite tools are free!

In this session, which will be accessible to beginners yet will bring knowledge and value to seasoned developers as well, I will discuss why web performance matters and how many organizations only address performance problems when it’s too late (i.e. after it is causing problems with scalability or adversely impacting user experience).

We’ll start by introducing my favorite (and free) tools in my toolkit that identify immediate areas for improvement, survey popular paid tools and what they do well, and discuss why your CDN might be masking real problems. Finally I’ll introduce the open source automated performance testing framework that is integrated into Drupal core itself.
